We are buying proof mint sets issued by the US Mint, and paying top dollar for select years of issue. Please see our proof mint set listings below to see which ones we are buying. If you want to sell US Mint proof sets, then Midwest Mint coin dealers will give you a FREE APPRAISAL and, if we're interested, a fair and professional offer.
US Mint proof coin sets were produced beginning in 1936 through 1942. These proof mint sets are fairly rare, and difficult to find in their original pristine condition ... partly because of how mint proof sets were packaged during those years (see below). Proof mint sets were resumed in 1950 and, except for 1965-1967, have been issued every year by the US Mint.

1936-1942
1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1940, 1941, 1942 – buying all years
1936 was the first year of issue for US Mint proof coin sets. The Jefferson nickel replaced the buffalo nickel in 1938. In 1942, the composition of the nickel was changed, and some mint proof sets contain both nickels. The US Mint ceased issuing proof sets for seven years due to metal shortages caused by World War II.
Our coin dealers in proof sets are currently paying from $350 to $3,500 for these old proof sets:
1936-1937: 5 coins; Lincoln cent ("wheat penny"), buffalo nickel, "Mercury" winged Liberty dime, Washington quarter, Liberty walking half-dollar
1938-1941: 5 coins; Jefferson nickel introduced in 1938
In 1950 the U.S. Mint resumed minting proof coin sets. The Roosevelt dime had replaced the Mercury dime, and the Franklin-Liberty Bell ½-dollar replaced walking Liberty. In 1955, new packaging was introduced for US Mint proof sets; the box was replaced with a flat envelope and better cellophane. In 1960, two different sizes of dates were stamped on the Lincoln Memorial 1-cent (redesigned, 1959) proof coin.
Our coin dealers in proof sets are currently paying from $25 to $250 for these proof sets:
1950-1954:5 proof coins set; Lincoln cent, Jefferson nickel, Roosevelt dime, Washington quarter, Franklin-liberty bell half-dollar
1955:same 5 coins; original package box or flat
1956-1958:same 5 coins; flat packs
1960:small date on the Lincoln Memorial cent; flat packs
Old box (right, top) and cellophane wrapper (middle) replaced by flat pack (bottom) in 1955.

No US Mint proof coin sets were made from 1965-1967. Since 1968, all mint proof sets are made at the San Francisco U.S. Mint. This period of proof mint sets is characterized by mint mark variations and the introduction of multiple, specialized coin sets within each year. New coins introduced during this time include the Kennedy 50-cent piece, Anthony $1 coin, Eisenhower dollar, state quarters, as well as several commemorative proof set coins.
While the commemoratives, special packaging, and silver coins have increased interest with proof set collectors, it is the mint mark variations that have had the biggest influence on newer US Mint proof set values! *
Our coin dealers in proof sets are currently paying up to $4,400 for some of these proof sets (ALL ARE "S" MINT MARKS) :
1968, 1970:5 proof coins set; Lincoln cent, Jefferson nickel, Roosevelt dime - NO MINT MARK, Washington quarter, Kennedy half-dollar; also, 1-cent w/SMALL DATE

1979, 1981:6 coins, including Anthony $1; CLEAR MINT MARK
